Women's March

I think no one can deny the fact what happened last Friday. A girlfriend and I went to the movies so we had to sit in the dark for two hours and couldn't watch our phones. When I got home and turned on CNN to watch Obama's live speech only to turn it off minutes later when they switched segments.

But on Saturday millions of women en men united to walk a march in her or his city. There were a total of 673 marched and an estimated 4,7 million people who joined. If only I knew the Netherlands participated. There was a march in Amsterdam, Den Haag and Roermond.

On Instagram I saw so many women that I follow all over the world either joining the march or showing their contribution by posting a picture. I'm showing that I stand behind the women's march and what it stands for to write about it on my little space on the internet. I've written several times on women equality before and showed my admiration towards Hillary Clinton.

You would think that all women, no matter whom they voted for or if they're American or not would stand behind this march but instagram comments showed otherwise. A blogger that I follow who delivered a baby boy in December received an unkind comment on her picture of visiting Long Island instead of joining the march. It's so easy to leave an unkind comment on someone's instagram behind a private account.

Spread love. Not hate.

A Weekend To Warm Up

This weekend will be spend with the sole purpose to warm up. The past week my toes felt so cold as my hands way too many times and I feel like I can't get warm anymore. Do you feel me? How long will this winter last?

Since we have something to celebrate we'll dress up on Saturday and go out. But, then head back inside and curl up on the couch for dinner not to leave the apartment until Monday. Sounds great right?

I also went a little crazy with my online shopping and bought three pairs of shoes which will be equally warm for my feet as stylish for the office. You see, it was a necessity! 

Next week will bring an exciting new start which I'll share with you soon. I'm so pumped for this new start (you probably guessed what it is)!

Maybe I'll go out for drinks on Friday, but the couch still looks so tempting to me... ;-)

Tracking My Water Intake

I love drinking water throughout the day. It's the first thing that I drink in the morning and the last thing that I drink at night. I have a bottle of water next to my night stand or on my desk at all times. Most of the times when I'm out and about I have a bottle of water with me. An hour drive or train ride without a bottle of water? No way!

So drinking water comes fairly easy and natural to me. My dad's solution to a headache is drinking a glass of water, so water is my first go-to medicine.

But I wanted to know exactly how much water I drink during the day so I decided to start to keep track. Yesterday was my first day of keeping track and downloaded a simple app.

Before breakfast I already drank my first 500 ml of water and I have to say, that one didn't come easy. Felt like I had to chug it down. But that is something I want to keep up with. Replenish my water intake after a night's sleep.

I always read that you have to drink at least 2 liters or 8 glasses a day for health but 2 liters seemed too little for me since I already had my first 500 ml that day. So I set my target for 3 liters.

Normally I refill my bottle of 500 ml throughout the day, even if it's not totally empty. But today I only tracked the water and refilled the bottle if it were empty. This is easier to track.

5:25 PM

By 5:30 PM I already had 2,5 liters of water and reached 84% of my daily goal. Wow! Not to imagine I slept in because it was Sunday and had breakfast around 10 AM. That 20 ml is an espresso by the way. ;-)

7:55 PM

It wasn't even 8 PM and I already met my goal of 3 liters! Considering it was at the beginning of the evening, I could easily drink a gallon by the time of going to bed! A gallon is 3,7 liters and sounds so daunting thinking of drinking so much. Especially because it's almost twice the daily recommendation!

A few facts of my Sunday:

  • I only drank water and 1 espresso throughout the day (so no soda);
  • I didn't work out;
  • I didn't eat spicy food;
  • I only drank when I wanted and not to get to my daily target.
Of course, not every day looks like this (I think). In the office I drink less water and more tea. Which I think, you can also consider for your water intake. But when I'm very busy at for example in a meeting or want to finish typing an email, I delay my water intake, even not on purpose.

So here is my challenge. I will keep tracking my daily water intake but the difference now is that I will have to make more effort of drinking water since not every day looks like this lazy Sunday (okay I did a lot of studying, so not that lazy!).

If I can easily drink more than 3 liters a day of water without going to the gym, I should consider drinking more than 3 liters a day on days that I go to the gym.

Guess what? While finishing this post, I finished another bottle of water! Maybe all this thinking of water just makes me thirsty! ;-)

Christmas Eve in Sweden

In Norrtälje.

Wanted to show you a view pictures of how we spent Christmas Eve while we were in Sweden. The night of the 24th is way more important to the Swedish than Christmas Day. Hence we walked through an empty little town called Norrtälje. But since it was so cold, a short trip was all we needed and went back home and had hot chocolate and champagne.

Healthy Food Overhaul

Although 2017 started pretty good, I did caught the flu three days ago... Not until I'm sick I value myself when I'm healthy and I should do that more. I have so much to be happy and grateful about and a healthy mind and body would be on to of that list. To be honest, the whole month of December was just a party when it comes to food and drinks and now that my body almost only asks for vitamin C, I'll put a hold to that. So no more breakfast of two slices of spelt bread with Nutella...

I LOVE bread! We Duchies have the best bread of the whole wide world and maybe eat the most bread as well. Now I want eat bread alternatives or the healthiest kind.

That means no more oatmeal as well! Just for now though, to try it out. Yesterday I bought Chia Breakfast which I'll make with almond milk and top off with some fresh fruit.

Another breakfast option would be sprouted grain bread with peanut butter or avocado.

For lunch I brought sushi nori and rice paper. The latter does has carbs in it, but way less than bread. I will fill these with veggies, sprouts and some kind of protein.

This will make me eat less carbs, less sugar (bread toppings) and more veggies. I'm on for a clean start of 2017!

Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year everyone! Hope you had a nice and safe NYE and night. I went to a party with a friend of mine. They played music from the 60's till now.

The first few days of 2017 I spent in Arnhem. Felt like a little vacation. Even though I had been away during Christmas! You might not know this, but Audrey Hepburn used to live there!

The first day of the year always brings the "New Year, New Me" stuff. But you know what? How about 'New Year, Same Me'? Often I see new months as new beginnings and of course, January too. But no need to totally reinvent myself. Or wait doing or changing something until it's the first of the year. 

I have some super exciting things to look forward to. Hopefully more traveling! But one of the major things I will do the first half of 2017 is to graduate. Looking forward to that so much. Not the exams of course, but being free of studying and gaining that piece of paper!

When I don't have to study at nights and on weekends anymore, it means I'll have time for other things. Some very exciting things... But, will share that a bit later in the year with you!
