Girls' Life And Boys' Life Magazine Compared

Recently Amy Schumer posted the above picture on instagram which caused for quite the internet rage and I'm glad it got so much attention that I decided to share it on my instagram and facebook. Since I was young I've been a lover of magazines. Yes, also the magazines that are pretty much the same as Girls' Life above. But I never picked up a boys' magazine before or compared the two of them. See here above, the obvious statement that the magazines (both September 2016) are making. Girls: dream hair, wake up pretty, fall fashion, drama and my first kiss. Boys: explore your future. With all kinds of potential professions pictured.

While there is nothing wrong with liking fashion, girls should also be encouraged to explore their future and not only worry about their first kiss. Now of course I don't know how the other issues of Girls' Life look like, I think I have an idea thinking back to the magazines I used to read when I was young.

Wish Girl's Life and other t(w)een magazines alike would publish a career magazine like the one on the right. And then please, not only prima ballerinas, but with the same hammer, telescope and police badge.

Hope more people will think about this topic and maybe share it on their social media as well!

Happy Fall - Free From Retrograde!

Yay, it's fall! My favorite season is here! Fall means layers, and early fall doesn't require jackets yet. Hopefully it stays dry for a little while longer. Plus, of course everything pumpkin flavored, darker shades of red nail polish and beautiful colored leaves on the ground. Love walking in the woods around this time and just be mesmerized by nature's beauty. I also think cities (like New York) look way more beautiful around this time of year. I've been three times in NYC and the last time it was in November which is maybe the best time to visit the city. Ok, and maybe early spring too. ;-)

But fall brings more than PSL, it also stands for change. Change from summer into colder, icier weather and then into winter. I always feel like fall is the time for change as it's always been a new school year. This year around, change is just around the corner again and I can't wait to figure it all out what that exactly means.

Yesterday was the first official day of fall and apart from pictures somewhat like above, I also saw pics of Mercury being free from retrograde. I have heard about it in a Hilary Duff song, but never understood the meaning of it so I looked it up. Apparently when Mercury is in retrograde it means bad news. It's associate with associated with confusions, delay, and frustration. Ugh, don't want any of that! Next time it happens is from December 19 till December 31st. So unfair during Christmas!

Hope everyone's fall will be as beautiful as the picture above, and we have the stars with us!

Get Back Into (Distance) Study Mode After Summer (The Legally Blonde Way)

Tomorrow marks the first day of fall and fall always means two things: everything pumpkin flavored and the start of school/college!

I'll start my senior year officially on October 1st, but I wanted to get a head start and start a few weeks earlier. However, that was easier said than done. The last few weeks have been a heat wave in the Netherlands. All I wanted when I got home from work and on the weekends was to go outside and enjoy the weather. Last weekend it finally felt a little bit more like fall was just around the corner and on Sunday I started and finished my first topic of a course.

But that took some time to really get into the mood for studying. And since I'm studying distance, I have to be my own cheerleader.

Have your own orientation week! As distance students, we don't get an orientation week where we can meet our pears, have fun activities and ease back into study mode. In that week you can do the following things:

Here are some tips that will get you back into study mode after summer:

1: Clean your study place.

The first thing I did a couple of weeks ago was to make room for my new books and clean up my desk so that I could sit down and start fresh. Last Sunday when I took the actual step of studying, it wasn't as hard because the place was inviting for books.

2: Make a plan.

After I finished my first topic I planned out the coming week of the other first topics of the courses that I wanted to finish. I have an actual paper planner where I write down all my tasks and 'homework'. Whatever you write down is your commitment to yourself.

3: Watch one of these Back To School movies.

Every year just before school starts since high school, I watch 'Legally Blonde'. The scene that she buys a Macbook in her bunny suits and that her schoolmates say: "Are those books that she is holding?" are classic. And of course the scene when she is studying for the LSATs and turning down parties. Currently I'm watching 'Gossip Girl' again and I'm in season three where they're attending university. If these two won't help you to get into the mood, watch 'Gilmore Girls'. I'm such a big fan of the show, I have them all on DVD. Now all seasons are on Netflix and I can't wait for the coming four episodes! Rory is lithely the best back to school motivation girl out there!

4: Just start.

One of these days you just have to pick up your books, open them, read and make notes. For me starting last Sunday made me realize again how much I actually like studying. I started with one of the topics I would enjoy most: Advertising and promotion in brand marketing.
Start with an easy chunk and the rest will follow.

I'm so far in now, my last year! I'll make sure this will be my most enjoyable study year yet! Never say never, but it will probably be the last year I'm a student as well. So I'll make the most out of it!

Now get up, walk to your desk and start studying!

A Day in Amsterdam

Canals of Amsterdam.

Last Friday I had a day off and because previous plans got canceled, I decided to go to Amsterdam instead. Thursday it was still a steamy 30 degrees celsius but Friday luckily it cooled off to 23 degrees at the highest point. Which meant I could wear one of my new cardigans! And I got my first PSL of the year to warm me in the morning. Plus had a croissant for breakfast on the train.

Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Amsterdam views.

Nutella cookie

Vondelpark already shows fall!

My favorite lunch: caesar salad and a pinot grigio.

Across from central station.

Sleeveless Vests Fall Inspiration

This week two big packages of Zara and H&M came in full with fall fashion, which I cannot wear yet right now. This week was another end of summer heatwave and I'm so over it, can't wait to wear my new clothes! Today temperature will drop to 23 degrees instead of 30 degrees which is already much more pleasant.

In my package I have a sleeveless vest and it's the first one in my wardrobe. Hence I searched for inspiration how to wear the fall trend. Here are my favorites!

Beauty Review: Ole Hendriksen Power Peel

In June I shared that I wanted to change my skin care plan on my road to perfect skin, and I added a few products and tossed a few as well. A few weeks ago I read about the Ole Hendriksen Power Peel and then I just had to try. I bought one package and already after one try I saw some changes. Fine wrinkles were gone and my skin was smoother overall. Since the package is pretty expensive and I had to order it from the UK, I only use it once every four weeks instead of every two weeks as recommended. Decided to write a review for the blog!

How I experience the steps:

The scrub:

This smells like breakfast! Love the smell of oatmeal and honey and the texture of the grains. It has an overall clayish texture. Apply on wet face and wash and dry.

The peel:

It is has a jelly texture and smells like lemon. So good again! I like this step as I really feel that's working. It really does stings a little so don't be afraid. Apply on dry face and don't remove.

The mask:

The mask comes to the rescue as I really feel the sting burn on my face. It has a super smooth texture and again lovely smell. I leave this on for 15 minutes.

How my face looks after:

Pink!! Like I stayed in the sun too long and burnt my face.

The Verdict:

Yes, I will buy again after I ended the package. I have three more months to go! The next day my little spots are way less and has a healthy glow. The whole experience takes a while and feels really nice. Like I'm really cleaning and peeling my face, much more than a normal scrub and mask. However, the price! Wish all three products would come in larger tubes!

Back From Berlin, Germany!

Siegessäule - Grosser Stern, Berlin, Germany

I'm back from my business trip to Berlin! This weekend I took it really slowly and relaxed a lot, which I really needed after a busy 5 days in Berlin!

I didn't see much of Berlin, but I manage to take some pictures from the taxis!

Brandenburg Gate, Berlin, Germany

One of the outfits I wore for dinner. Four nights in a row to dinner, oye!

The last night my team and I walked passed Checkpoint Charlie after dinner.

Showing off my new ring at my hotel.

On Sunday when we arrived and before dinner I shopped a little at the Mall of Berlin.

Happy September and Trip to Berlin!

I'm welcoming September with open arms, because it means fall (my favorite season) is just around the corner! Well, it doesn't seem like it because I've been wearing skirts and dresses with bare legs all week. And it seems like coming week will be the same! I bought some items from the fall collections already which I haven't worn once yet.

September is all about travel because I'm in Berlin, Germany as we speak! Haven't been to Berlin since many years so I hope to see a little bit of the city. But because it's a business trip, most time will be spend indoors.

When I'm back from Berlin I'll have another trip to look forward to which is Texel! Hope then the weather is still like this so maybe I can even wear a bikini on the beach!

So fall, please wait showing up until the second half of September, will ya?

I'll be blog on here once I'm back from Berlin! You can follow my travels on my instagram @DashinglyElevating
