Birthday Week

Ajándék Terminal - AT Xmas / 2013 by kissmiklos , via Behance:

Tuesday I celebrated my 27th birthday! First I had high tea with my mom. It was really nice to see each other again and having high tea together on my birthday is kind of our thing.

When I got home Lindsey came a little bit later and had snacks for dinner and all kinds of desserts. I love being around her, talking and laughing a lot! Plus, champagne got involved!

Because my birthday was on a Tuesday, it was kind of mellow, but that didn't meant I felt any less special. Last Saturday I had a little pre-birthday party at my place so I feel very loved!

New Year's Eve Of 26

Today is the last day of me being 26 years old. Or should I say young? ;-) My grandmother (I'm wearing her pearls in the picture above) used to make my dad 'oliebollen' on the day before his birthday. It's a traditional sweet pastry we Dutch eat on New Year's Eve.

Even though I won't make them tonight, although I might be able to buy one already, I will celebrate my personal New Year's Eve a little.

Looking back at how this year has been for me and more important: the new people I've met who made this year grand for me. I'm so grateful for that, and I consider myself very lucky.

Looking forward to the new year to come!

White Mohair Cardigan And Black Booties

This mohair cardigan from H&M is so soft and looks very elegant as well. Currently love shawl neck sweater and cardigans and this one makes me feel like Lily van der Woodsen.
Thin high healed booties from Buffalo make the outfit a bit more edgy.

How To Dodge A Cold

The Bradley's: Inspiration, the cozy sweater, warm kitchen:

The other day I woke up with a sore and thick throat and I was afraid that I was getting a cold. The next day I had an important meeting, so being sick wasn't the option. Below are a few things I did to fight that cold and feel better too:

  • try to eat. When my throat and head hurts, I don't feel like eating. But, I always try to because it does makes me feel better right away. Try yoghurt or oatmeal with a banana for breakfast.

  • stay warm. In bed or on the couch, I'll be in my warmest sweater, under a blanket and with a cup of tea in my hands.

  • take a bath. My muscle will relax more and I feel like I'm sweating out the germs. Plus, it's a total relaxation.

  • go to a spa/sauna. See above, Different saunas and baths have various health benefits. It wouldn't hurt anyone to spend a day in the warmth and heat while it's so cold outside. Also, the eucalyptus works wonders for your stiff nose.

  • drink your vitamins. I love to drink fresh juices or make my own Glowing Green Smoothie for extra and quick vitamins.

  • walk it off. Going outside for a walk always feels good. Bundle up, smell the fresh air and get some vitamin D,

  • take a nap. But only in the early afternoon and no longer then 40 minutes so that you still can sleep at night.

  • chicken soup. Like everybody else, when I'm sick, I'm craving chicken soup. So when I feel like a cold is coming up, I feel like it can do wonders for my body. See a nice recipe here.

  • above all: rest. Try not to do too much and relax as much as you can. If you have to work, try not to do anything else when you're at home. Ditch the gym (germs, loud music) for one day and go to bed one hour sooner.

A Weekend Spent Dancing & Relaxing

Saturday relaxed, took naps and watched a couple of episodes from House of Cards. We had a very relaxing day because at night, we went to a concert of DJ Martin Solveig. It was during Amsterdam Dance Event and in the car I was already getting excited.

Loved dancing the whole night and seeing Martin Solveig live! After he was done, a well known Dutch DJ, Oliver Heldens, played as well.

On Sunday I went to have a super relaxing massage and after I went back home and took a bath. So relaxing!

Outfit Inspiration: Gossip Girl Fall Fashion

Serena van der Woodsen style: The Last Days of Disco Stick:

Recently I finished watching  all the seasons of Gossip Girl and even though the series ended years ago, so many outfits and beauty and hair looks are still so on point.
Except for Jenny's racoon eyes. No one should ever follow that advice, haha. ;-)

So here below some of my favorite looks of Gossip Girl I found on Pinterest:

Distance Studying: How To Stay Motivated

The new study year has just started and because I'm in my second year, I'm more motivated than ever. I'm already ahead on schedule! During last year I learned some motivational tips while studying. This year I started knowing them already and I thought I'd share them for other distance learning students:

  • Have a designated study area. I'm lucky enough to have a separate study room. It's just a small room but with a big desk and a huge white closet for all my books. It looks both stylish and functional. You can see my study room here.
    If you don't have a study room, make a corner in your living- or bedroom. Tips for a small study space can be found here.
  • Make it part of your everyday life. And with this I don't just mean to study everyday, but to use it in your day to day life. Try to incorporate the things you learn from your study at work and vice versa. If you don't have a job that incorporates with your studies (a fellow student of mine is a pastry maker!, talk about what you've learned with your friends and family. This is a great study tip as well!
  • Read about it apart from the text books. I like to catch up on current business events by reading Financial Times or websites like Business Week and Wallstreet Journal. This way you're on top of the industry and you might even use and article for your course.

  • Reach out with your peers. join an online study group like Skype or email with your fellow students. Talking about it with people who go through similar situations is always good to motivate each other.
  • Visible motivation. Last year I bought a couple of branded merchandise from my university like a key chain, pencils, a bookmark and pictures of the founder's building. It kept me motivated and I felt like I belong there, because I'm actually enrolled in the uni itself. This year I bought a t-shirt and a mug. I also have inspirational quotes on my wall to keep me motivated to study when I get distracted.
  • Study at different places. you can study at the library, a Starbucks cafe, behind your desk on your lunch break on work or maybe even at a public area of your local university. This will get you out of the rut of studying at home all the time (and maybe even distracts you less!).
  • Remember why you started. This tip helps with everything: getting fit, started a new home project or starting a new study next to your full time job, It's all about the bigger picture in the future, but you probably started this to have a better job in the future, Just remember this: 'It will pay off the hard work!'

I hope these tips help!

A Fast Weekend

This weekend just flew by. One of those weekends that you blink and that you can't believe it's already Sunday evening. Sometimes I think: 'What did I actually do this weekend?'. And that's why I like instagram so much and to make a weekend round up on this blog.

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and I like it even more when it's outdoors. Loved this pumkin cupcake (#pumpkineverything) and chai tea latte to begin our Saturday.

At night I was getting ready for a night out with Mandy (see first picture) while listening to Taylor Swift. Since a few weeks, I'm really into her latest album again, since it was off my radar for a while.

My whole Sunday was filled with something with that happened unexpected. That's why I was really happy that by the end of the day I could sit back with a good book and a cup of tea to relax from the fun night before!

Cashmere Sweater and Black Booties

This is my college look. The batchel finishes the look as a whole. Even though this is an outfit which can be worn at class, this is great for the office as well, if you work in a more informal environment.

Cashmere trurtle neck, jeans from Levis, new booties from Buffalo and batchel from the Cambridge Satchel Company.

Something Good In Every Day

There is something good in every day: you! Quotes for kids:

A few weeks ago I saw the movie 'About Time' on Netflix. It was about a guy who could travel back in time to redo something so it will end up better for him. Like to redo a date until it went perfect. Also, Margot Robbie was in the movie and I love her, so big plus!

In the film on one night he relized he had a terrible day and redo's the day exactly the same and sees then, it's actually a pretty cool day!

Sometimes all the bad things of a day add up and then you might forget all the nice things that had happened that day.

For example:

  • the tram/train/tube to work just arrived when you came walking (no waiting or running);
  • you're the first person at your department or class so that you can work in silence for at least ten glorious minutes;
  • all green lights while driving your car;
  • you get a compliment on your new dress/heels/bag/hairdo;
  • you get a compliment on your presentation/paper/assignment;
  • someone holds the door for you;
  • there's a free treadmill in the gym, just for you;
  • you come home and your bf/roomie cooked dinner;
  • there're newly added episodes of your favorite series on Netflix;
  • you're at home/work/uni just before it started to rain;
  • you started reading a new book and you're immediately hooked;
  • you come home to your loving partner or pet;
  • there's no line at the grocery store/Starbucks/hot dog stand;
  • you broke into your new shoes so finally a day without aching feet;
  • your favorite song of the moment comes up on the radio in the car/at work;
  • a stranger/a kid gives you a smile;
  • a 7 year old girl says you're beautiful (and you say it back) which happened to me!

I could go on forever with this list (actually writing this makes me smile to myself :P) because sometimes it's the little things of the day that add up to be a pretty good/awesome/amezing day after all!

Dressing Up For Dinner

Saturday night dinner can feel so much more special when you dress up. Which happens to be something I love to do! I'm wearing a skinny pant, low cut wrap sweater and new Buffalo Booties (up for Friday Fashion soon!). By the end of the night my feet were so sore as this was the first occasion I wore them... :P

I was told it looked like I wore a catsuit because of all the black. ;-)

A crisp white shirt and a nice watch is all it takes to make a guy look dapper! ;-)

After dinner cocktails!
I said the sweater was low cut, right? ;-)

Happy October!

Happy October everyone!

October started off great with beautiful autumn weather. I only needed to wear a cardigan outside because it was so lovely in the sun. I bought a cashmere sweater, but maybe I should keep it in my closet a little while longer because of this warmth!

October also marks the month of my birthday. I'll be 27 on the 27th! I feel like this will be a great year. So far, 2015 has been SO much better for me than I expected in December 2014. Good things and good people just happen to come to me and I couldn't be more excited. The most unexpected nice things, are the best.

I love the feeling of  a new month. All the things that are still open. Maybe a new project at work, nice feedback from an essay I wrote for my studies, or just a new restaurant we will try out.

Really hope this lovely weather will stay around a little which holds me from wearing jackets and just showing off my fall outfits on my commute, haha!

Plus: pumpkin spice lattes for the win everybody!

Enjoy this month! I know I will! ;-)
