Some Of My Beauty Tips

After a whole day of studying on Sunday I always take a long shower or a nice warm bath. Then I really have the time for my longer beauty ritual. Here are some of my tips:

  • Take an alternating hot & cold shower. This might make you scream at first, but I feel very good after. Especially after my workout. First was regularly and at the end I turn on the hot water, make it even colder, take the showerhead over my legs and stomach and then turn back to warm. And this three times. I always end with warm, or else I'll be cold all day. These showers are good for the digestion, helps reduce cellulite, make you sleep better and makes the skin tighter.
  • Another tip with cold water: after you're done washing your hair, rinse it with very cold water. This makes your hair cuticles close so that your hair becomes greasy less quick. It also makes your hair more shiny!
  • Scrubbing. I scrub my face and body once a week. It removes old skin cells and makes your skin glow. Don't overdo it, once a week is really enough. Products can be found here.
  • Oil. I love to cover my whole face, lips and body with this oil once a week. It smells so good. It's a bit sticky, so make sure to cover your whole legs when you'll sit down! Sometimes I even use it on my hair before I was it.

Songs I Love To Listen To: 1989

This is a follow up post to this one and this blog post. Because also today I will share the music I've been listening to lately at work.
A while ago I downloaded Taylor Swift's 1989, but I didn't listen to it until I fell in love with 'Shake It Off' and 'Blank Space'. Since then I put it on my iPod and I listen to the album while at work (on repeat) or while doing the dishes.
This album is great for when you just broke up, broke up a year ago or just fell in love. So basically anyone can relate!

Here are my favorite songs:

Shake It Off: a song about that you shouldn't give a f*ck about the liars and the dirty dirty cheats in the world and just shake it off.

Blank Space: Hey, I had fun with you, my exes thing I'm crazy and I have some blank space to write your name on my exes list. Awesome and powerful song.

All You Had To Do Was Stay: "People like you always want back, the love they gave away".

Bad Blood: "Now we got problems, and I don't think we can solve them, you made a really deep cut, and baby now we got bad blood."

Wildest Dreams:
I say no one has to know what we do
His hands are in my hair,
his clothes are in my room
And his voice is a familiar sound,
Nothing lasts forever
But this is getting good now
He's so tall, and handsome as hell
He's so bad but he does it so well
And when we've had our very last kiss
But my last request is
Say you'll remember me
I Know Places: Absolutely love this song, think it's sexy in a way!
Clean: The song is about how you have to get over someone and how hard that is in the beginning and that you might still miss it, but that you're finally clean.

Rain came pouring down when I was drowning
That's when I could finally breathe
And by morning, gone was any trace of you, I think I am finally clean
I said "No one has to know what we do,"
His hands are in my hair, his clothes are in my room
And his voice is a familiar sound, nothing lasts forever
But this is getting good now
He's so tall, and handsome as hell
He's so bad but he does it so well
And when we've had our very last kiss
My last request is

Getting Better

If you're following my Twitter and Instagram account you might know I've had the flu for the past couple of days. I even stayed home from work which barely ever happens which means how awful I felt. Not until you had the flu again, you know how bad it can make you feel since I always forget. My head would feel so bad that I would wake up from it a couple of times a night. Party...

I basically only ate fruit (juices), soup, plain biscuits and Dutch pancakes. I know, not the healthiest! But the thought of vegetables and chicken made me sick and I could only crave easy and digestible and sweet food.

So when I started to feel better on Saturday I made a Glowing Green Juice out of kale, celery, an apple and lemon juice. In the afternoon I prepared loads of veggies to snack on for my bf and me with hummus and baba anoesch. After a home cooked meal (yay!), we made some sweet popcorn as a healthy(ish) snack during the movie. Perfect that we didn't plan a night out.

Normally I already eat lots of vegetables and fruits during the day, so I don't know how I got the flu. But I hope I get fully better soon because it s*cks!
At least I could smile with a bowl of popcorn in my hands! :P

And some wise words I stumbled upon to take in this Monday. ;-)

Fashion: A Touch Of Soft Pink

It's almost spring which means warmer temperatures and finally some more color in my wardrobe again. I love a soft pink pastel color like I wore last year as a skirt above with pastel gray pumps.

Study Tips: No Distractions

Since I'm studying so much, I know what my downfalls are when it comes to distractions. Here are some of my tips to go through a study session, distraction free:

  • Turn off your phone, completely. For me, laying my phone in my bedroom (on the other side of my department of my study room), isn't enough. Every time I would get a break I would take a look and lose 15 minutes easily. The phone doesn't get turned on until I'm done, around 5 PM.
  • This counts for your iPad as well. ;-) (major downfall here.)
  • Log off of Facebook and Twitter from your laptop (if used for studying). There's nothing posted that import there, that can't wait.
  • Listen to music or take a study break when the distractions are inside your head. Wish it was just technology distracting you, right?
  • Distractions from outside: whether it's a roommate, neighbors making noise or a busy street; outside blur is something you can barely do anything about. Tip? Find another place to study! My favorite place to study besides my own study room is (drumroll) the library! Don't bring any technology and study truly offline.

What's In A Year

I think about this all the time...Not sure if i like it or hate it!

Normally I'm good with dates. So also this past weekend I remembered where I was and what I did exactly one year ago. Who would have thought that one year can change so much? I was talking about it with my friend Lindsey how weird things can go in such a small amount of time. It seems like, one moment you're here and then just like that, you're in an almost new world.

Thinking back of some events doesn't mean that you're longing back to them. When I think of certain events, I think of how I felt then and where I stand now and how much I grew.

This past weekend, one year ago was one that I'll never forget. But I won't feel guilty about that. Maybe next year I forget to think about it on the exact date, which is fine as well. ;-)

Standing still thinking of certain dates or events makes you think: "where was I at that time and how much have I grown?".

Looking back once in a while makes you recap all the happy times in the past and appreciate the present even more.

Glasses Inspiration

Since I wear glasses (a few times a day, eherm), I see them all around me. And sometimes I asked a woman in the grocery store where she got her glasses. A compliment never hurts anyone!
So on pinterest I created a board called 'Glasses' for some inspiration. Thought to share a few ones here:

Jennifer Aniston in Oliver Peoples "Wacks" along with other famous girls who wear glasses

A Little About Being Concerned

don't be concerned with others
This is a nice quote to think of. You can look at it two ways: to not to think too much about what others think of you or not to think about others.
I'm going to write a little about the latter.
Now I'm not saying that you cannot show sympathy, but there is a limit. For example; if someone has hurt you a lot and that person is asking you for forgiveness, never forget how that person made you feel before you make up your mind and forgive that person. At this stage, it's not about that person anymore, but about you. You don't have to be concerned about them first, because were they about you, then?
Letting people go in your life might be really hard at first, but gradually you will feel better and more light. It doesn't mean that you'll never see that person in your life anymore, it's just means that you stop being concerned about them in order to be happy.
You're more capable of than you think, even to stop concerning for someone, (which doesn't mean you can't still care for them!) and letting go and be happy without that person on your mind. :)

IWD2015: Not There Yet

Yesterday was International Women's Day and through Twitter I stumbled upon a tweet from Chelsea Clinton whom I follow. She this video below from the Not-There project. It's about how we're doing in the world with gender equality, but that we're not there yet.

Soon enough I saw many twitter accounts (including me) change their profile picture into this one:

You can read stories and facts about girls and women on the website from no ceilings here.

"It really just means that you believe in equality. If you stand for equality, you are a feminist."

How To Get To Work/School Earlier

1.girl A. Asleep in bed, mournfully restless, small utterings of words, bright light shines through the window, echoes of a rainbow burst of sunshine, she turns nonchalant in the slumber. Until a loud yell, and pitted patter of feet is heard, kids storm in, one boy one girl and awaken girl A. From sleep, she laughs appreciatively and looks on as they jump up and down and out of the room. She gets up , as if to stretch and turns into the light coming in from the window.

  1. Get out of bed earlier! I know, easier said than done. But what works for me is to get up at the same time my bf gets up instead of laying there for another 40 minutes...
  2. Set your alarm earlier. One minute per day, this so that you don't feel it to much!
  3. Pack your bag the night before. I've been doing this all my live since school. My gym clothes, water, fruit and all other things I might need for that working day.
  4. Think of an outfit the night before. This might be the hard, but it saves a lot of time. I sometimes think of an outfit while I'm in the bathroom. This because if I wait until I'm in front of my closet, I just don't know what to wear.
  5. Set a time for social media. When I wake up alone, I immediately grab my phone to check email and social media. But before I know it, it's 7:15AM. If I just set 10 minutes for my phone, I can be up to 20 minutes earlier at work.
  6. Have breakfast ready. Make breakfast in advance and keep in your fridge. For example overnight oats. A bowl of oats, raisins and milk for example. Put in the fridge and it's ready to eat! You can warm it up a little and I love to add half a banana.

The Last Winter Days...

The BEST Black Friday deals!! Click through for links and codes.
Slowly but surely we're getting warmer weather. And though I'm majorly looking forward to warmer spring weather, there're some things I'll miss from the winter:
  • Sweaters: they're just so cozy! I love wearing a big sweater when I'm coming home from work and get ready to study for most of the evening.
  • Cozying up with a glass of red wine: of course I'll drink wine with dinner when warmer weather comes, I love sitting on the couch, reading a book or enjoying each other's company whilst sipping some red wine.
  • Snow. we haven't had snow in a few weeks, but I think it's so beautiful. While in the Alps in Switzerland we climbed a mountain covered in snow. I couldn't stop touching the snow. And I love to see all the beautiful pictures of NYC covered in white.
  • Winter food: veil, pears, thick soups, hot chocolate milk, gl├╝hwein, eggnog, cheese fondue... you name it. I love hearty winter dishes which have no room when summer comes.
  • The Holidays: Christmas is my favorite time of the year and NYE is one of my favorite parties of the year. But this year Valentine's Day was so special. It will definitely be one to remember.
And now I'm looking forward to Spring!

Hello March!

Hello March
It's March already! Which means meteorological spring has started and only three more weeks until it's officially spring! Can't wait!
I always go on the bike to work (how Dutch!) and love that it's already so light outside when I leave at 8 AM and still light when I come home around 5:45 PM.
Also noticing that the weather is slowly getting warmer. Still wearing my gloves and hat outside on the bike, but while walking it's doable without.

There's so much spring fashion already! Can't wait to buy and wear new items I've been eyeing on. Lots of neutrals, whites and even prints!
I posted this picture on instagram yesterday:
After last week, this occurred to me: do not let your past define who you are today. Thinking of, that your past is just a story, it makes it so much easier to let things go.
Let's start this month with happy thoughts and try not to look back too much. Not thinking of something doesn't mean you have to forget!
