My 26th Birthday

Monday was my 26th birthday and it was a beautiful, sunny, mellow day filled with loved ones.

We started the day by going to Elysium spa, which is a half hour drive. It was such a warm day, 17 degrees C!

Because of this we could lay in our bathrobes outside in the sun. On a bed or swing. ;-) The bubble baths and jacuzzi were great outside but my favorite bath outside was the super salty one, where you could easily float and take a nap in the water. ;-)

I've been there one time before and it's by far my favorite spa of all the ones I've been in the Netherlands. So many baths and saunas!
We had a lunch of over an hour because we talked so much and had prosecco. It was perfect and relaxing!

When we got home my dad, stepmom and dog were there for cake and presents!

For dinner my friend Lindsey came over for lots of tapas, wine, talking and laughing. She bought me an amazing gift!

Tuesday at work a few colleagues took me out for cupcakes and tea. So sweet and they were so good! After lunch break my colleagues from my department really surprised me with some gifts. It felt it was my actual birthday!

Gray Dress and Black Booties

A simple gray long sleeved dress, spiced up with black leather booties and a cherry lip. Felt a little biker-chic in this outfit. Together with my light gray coat I got so many compliments on the street. Really a winner outfit, perfect for fall!

Legendary Oscar de la Renta

Tuesday morning I woke up reading the news on my phone that the legendary Oscar de la Renta has died.
"Legendary fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, who spent half a century putting high society in haute couture, has died. He was 82.
The man -- often described as the "sultan of suave" -- dressed every first lady since Jacqueline Kennedy. Among those whose glamor factor his dresses jazzed up: Oprah Winfrey, Anne Hathaway and, most recently, George Clooney's bride Amal Alamuddin.
"We will always remember him as the man who made women look and feel beautiful," former first lady Laura Bush said late Monday night. De la Renta designed the wedding dress for her daughter, Jenna."

An Announcement...

I've got an announcement to make...

I've started to study again!! Over summer I got my Communication Degree and I knew for quite some time that I wanted something more. Now I've started distance BSc Business Administration at The School of Management, Royal Holloway, University of London.

I started earlier this month and if you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you might noticed I was studying again. In the above picture I started with topic 1 of Accounting for Management and I've to study from two books at once. We also received a Guide Book and Note Book for each course.
The courses of Foundation level I all follow this year:
  • Management and the modern corporation
  • Accounting for management
  • Business analysis and decision making
  • Business statistics
  • Business study skills and methods
  • Management and communication skills
College years are behind me from quite some time, but I've done studying besides work before. Also the Communication Degree was distance learning. However, the last time I studied several courses (let alone 6) at once has been years.

At first I was a little scared to study fully in English. But because I use English at work, in my spare time and on my blog, I noticed very soon the language is not a problem. Accounting, however, might be. Haha ;-) I've got already 4 (!) people to help me with Accounting or anything quantitative related.

The course material as the paper based exams are the same that are held for the full time students. We have an online learning community where we can contact the tutors and students. I've already met some fellow students across the world and even some here in Rotterdam and Amsterdam who I'll probably meet for study group!

I added an extra tab on my blog 'Study'. I'll write about my experience as a distance student along the way and I hope it might help/inspire other distance students as well as college students!

This feels like a whole new beginning for me. Like a new chapter starts. And I'm so excited!

Pied-De-Poule Office Dress

This dress from Zara is absolutely great  for the office. Finally a pencil skirt that is long enough so that it falls over my knees.
I love the plain pied-de-poule. I might have 4/5 other dresses with this pattern, but it's really timeless.

A Relaxing Saturday

This was such a fun, relaxing Saturday spent with my BFF Lindsey. It was raining all afternoon, so perfect to go to a museum. We went to the opening of 'The Future Of Fashion Is Now' at Boijmans museum in Rotterdam.

I must say, there were so many weird 'clothes', it actually made us laugh! :P

We met some interesting people as well...

Like this guy. Yup, this is a real model...

After the museum we went to Dudok for some hot coco.

Then for dinner we had cheese fondue at my place. Thought it was finally cold enough for such a warm and cozy dinner!

Outfit Inspiration: Cool Weather Coats

After a few warm after summer days and weekends, it's  definitely getting colder now. Time for tights and warmer coats! I'm not sure what kind of style or color coat I want to buy this fall, so I rounded up some from the internet for inspiration.

Listening To Music At Work

Sometimes I listen to music on my iPod or iPhone all day long at work and sometimes days go by where I don't even listen to one song. Not even at home!

So recently I shared a new (to me) discovered musician on Twitter. Hans Zimmer. He is a music composer and producer for movies. Beautiful and brilliant.
I 'discovered' him while browsing for music on YouTube and the songs of diverse music is really good. I would recommend to listen to a whole soundtrack of a movie, or a playlist.

I thought I'd share some other artists that I listen to at work:

Mike Oldfield - Music of the Spheres
Beautiful music, one of my favorite composers. Not that odd, because I grew up listening to his music.

Hardwell
Might not be the average music to listen to, but it gives me great energy.

The Cure - Pictures Of You
Saw a movie a while ago where this song was played at the end and the lyrics and intro is just so good.

Hilary Duff - All About You
My favorite song since it came out. Can listen to it on repeat. I wrote about this song earlier.

Six Fall Recipes

This was certainly a beautiful fall weekend. Cool mornings, sunny afternoons and the nights come sooner and feel a lot cozier. That's why I like fall so much. This weekend I spent a lot of time outside. At times, just a cardigan or even a t-shirt was enough!

This weather also makes me crave typical fall foods & drinks  like everything pumpkin, Brussels sprouts and cider. Sunday I made some pancakes for breakfast, but can't wait to try the recipe with pumpkin as above picture! Find some inspiration for yourself here:

Arugula Salad with Apples, Walnuts, and Roquefort

Carrot Cake; maybe not only for fall, but I think it tasted extra good now with an PSL!

Maple-Bacon Brussels Sprouts; I love Brussels sprouts with bacon! But will try it with maple now.

Hot Spiced Cider; want to make it myself one day!

Spaghetti with Cauliflower, Burrata and Thyme

Bordeaux Skirt and Black Sweater

Happy October everyone! This is my favorite month of the year. Fall started, beautiful colored trees, finally wearing some bordeaux again and my birthday at the end of the month!

I fell in love with this mini skirt at Zara as soon as I saw it. I paired it with a simple black sweater and pumps with a red lip for some extra pop. I could still wear bare legs because it was 21 degrees C outside, but a bit foggy in the morning.

Hope that everyone will have a great month. I've lots of nice things planned and also to share something with you soon!

If I Could Be Anywhere Right Now...

I love to play this game with myself in my head: if I could be anywhere right now, where would I want to be?

The answers vary from: "somewhere on a warm beach" to "New York City" and "anywhere but here".

A few days ago I played this little game again and I came up with: Scotland. And a little more specific: hiking in mountains, see beautiful nature and smell fresh air. Monday I wrote about how much I love the woods and that I would like to be in the nature more often, so Scotland isn't really just a weird idea. ;-)

Luckily for me I have a Scottish colleague who sits right across from me. He gave me some tips and even said laughingly: "Scotland is one big mountain!" when I said: "I want to go somewhere where I can climb mountains.". Lol!

I would love to visit Glencoe. Looks absolutely stunning!

They filmed Harry Potter there!

I often pin pictures of beautiful places I want to visit one day. You can visit my Travel board here.

All pictures are from Glencoe's official website.
