White Pencil Skirt And Camel Sweater

This day was finally a beautiful summer day in the Netherlands again. And I was so happy that I decided to wear a skirt with bare legs, even if it was just 21 degrees. But actually, I was warm in this sweater! I kept it pretty neutral with a camel sweater from Zara, white pencil skirt from Mango and light gray pumps from Zara (last seen here & here).
Hope more of these days are coming!

Spa day At Home

Two weeks ago on Monday when I was celebrating my holiday, I started of the staycation with a spa day. I bought some prosecco (because I can), filled the bathtub with warm water and bubbles and read a good book. For two solid hours! I might had some wrinkly toes, but what a great way to relax.
I have a white orchid in my bathroom just to make it more alive and pretty. And I always lit a scented candle, this one I got as a present.
A bath fizzer next to regular bath soap for extra perfume, softness and bubbles.
Saltcrub Pure Spa & Orchid from Treets which I won't use every week, but makes me think I'm in a real spa because of the scent. They always have salt body scrub to use in real Spas.
Sugar Shea body scrub from The Body Shop. A thick scrub to use once a week
facial scrub with Manuka Honey from Dr. Organic to use every week. Love this one, a rich thick scrub to use once a week.
Blue Corn 3 in 1 Deep Cleansing Scrub Mask from The Body Shop. I use this one as a mask and I love the scent (again very spa-ish) and that it goes dry. Exfoliates your skin and left my face feel soft and glowy!
Oil for body, hair and skin. This scent of Brazil nut of The Body Shop is just so delicious. And I love it that you can put the oil everywhere! I leave in the oil in my hair for a night (it's dry oil so no dirty pillowcase!) and then wash my hair like normal for soft shiny hair. And I love it to put it on my body after I had a scrub. Super soft skin!

Currently reading Anna Karenina from Leo Tolstoy. Great for colder days like these. Especially when it's raining outside and you're in a warm bathtub. ;-)

First Signs Of Fall - All Black Outfit

The first signs of fall are here. Shorter days, temperature is dropping and much more rain. Luckily, when we went to shot these pictures, it was dry and the sun came out. And it was actually very nice weather!
On this morning I decided to wear an all black outfit and a red lip for a pop of color.
Lace shirt from DKNY

2014 Favorite Summer Songs

Even tough it looks like summer is over here (praying for some after summer days in September!), I thought it would be nice to round up my favorite summer songs for this year.

Hilary Duff  - Chasing The Sun
I love this song and the video! The video so describes me how I day dream about summer beaches (and boys!).
Calvin Harris - Summer
There isn't really much more of a summer song out there this year because of the tune and lyrics. I wrote about the lyrics and its meaning to me here. I think that this is a very nice love song as well! ;-)
Pharrell Williams - Come Get It Bae
Such a happy funny song, as like his whole album which I love! Great for when I'm running in the gym.
Michael Jackson & Justin Timberlake - Love Never Felt So Good
First of all: wow, who ever expected this? It's such a mellow song, great for summer evenings. :)
Coldplay - A Sky Full Of Stars
Ghost Stories is just such a beautiful album and this song lifts your mood up and makes you want to smile and dance!
Hilary Duff - All About You
This song came out a week ago and I'm hooked ever since! I think it's the perfect late summer song. The  lyrics make me giggle and the lyric video looks exactly like how I feel when I hear that song! It just makes me happy. And that feels pretty darn good!

A Day At The Beach

Even though it rains while I'm typing this and it most definitely seems like summer is over, this day at the beach was surprisingly warm. My whole week of vacation was surprisingly warm and dry. Thank G-d!
This beach is Kijkduin at Den Haag (The Hague). And since I spent most of my childhood growing up near the beach, I miss the sand and the sea a lot sometimes as a city girl now.

A Summer Day In Amsterdam

On Wednesday I went to Amsterdam for a day to spent some time with my mom in this beautiful city. It was (despite the forecast) a gorgeous summer day. Needed ice cream to cool off. See how quickly it melts! ;-)
Went to visit my favorite bookstore 'The American Book Center' and scrolled down many American books and got ideas for what to read next!
Before dinner, mom and I had some prosecco on a terrace in the sun.

We ended up at an Brazilian restaurant and had nice fish and meat. After dinner we got another massage at a place we went to before. Even though I had a massage on Tuesday too, I felt I needed one for my back and neck again. It felt great.
Amsterdam was full of tourists and I even got to talk to some Italian tourists and an American. My friends and I joke that there're more tourists in Amsterdam than real 'Amsterdammers'. ;-)

A Day At The Spa

This Spa is one of the best kept secrets of Rotterdam if you ask me. This little Spa is located in five star Mainport Hotel on the 8th floor, with a great location.
Since this is my summer vacation, I wanted to get a massage for some extra relaxation and to get rid of that nagging neck/shoulder pain. While there're many places to get a massage, it was like searching for a needle in a haystack.
Because I wanted a little more than just a massage, I googled "spa Rotterdam" and I found this hotel. Perfect!
And the best part? I had the Spa totally for myself most of the time!
I took a 55 minute full body massage and let me tell you, the massage was great! Felt relaxed after and finally felt some relieve in my tensed shoulders. Even though I paid 200% more than if I did it elsewhere in the city, but it was totally worth it! This because the access of the spa was included as well. A Finnish sauna, a Turkish steam bath and a swimming pool. Spent the whole late morning/earlier afternoon relaxing, swimming and reading there with that gorgeous few. What a great day! Will do it again soon!

Summer Vacation Has Started!

I could tell by mid last week that I really needed some days off. The week did not seem to end. However I was very productive at work, I noticed I didn't handle everything as I normally would on a personal note.

So summer vacation has arrived! Yay! However the weather might be very crappy (not warmer than 21C and rainy) I have a lot of nice things plans. I might not be able to do all the things on my Summer To-Do List though.

A little recap of the weekend:

Saturday was actually a beautiful day and I sat on my balcony in my shorts and top to work on my tan and finish Lean In and start on the first few chapters of 'To Kill A Mockingbird (also on my to-do list). For dinner I went out with a friend to my favorite Mexican restaurant in Rotterdam Popocatepetl. Love their food and the margaritas!

On Sunday I met my friend again and had some pancakes from the Breakfast Bar in Rotterdam (it was on my to-do list!) and after did some shopping. We tried out all kinds of body and facial scrubs, lotions and masks. Can't wait to use them!

Pictures can be found on my Instagram!

Black Skirt and White Scalloped Shirt

Sometimes those classics can easily be elevated. Like to change a black pant by a black min skirt (DKNY) and a white blouse by a scalloped white shirt (H&M). To keep it all a little light and playful, I'm wearing light gray pumps from Zara.
I really like this street of Rotterdam. It's just an arms length from my office (you can see the building and Central Station in the picture above), but I've made some beautiful memories here. Great for shopping, lunch and wine drinking!

To Find a Mentor

I'm currently reading "Lean In" from Sheryl Sandberg since a few days now and I just finished chapter 6. I have to say, I'm already very fund of this book. Sheryl shares her personal stories of work, college, private life and coworkers and friends to guide you through her book and give you advise about work (and life in general).
I love how it's written, more as a story then a step-by-step program which is not really my thing. And it's even making me laugh out loud sometimes!

In chapter 5 'Are You My Mentor?' she describes that you don't ask someone to be your mentor, but that a mentor rather crosses your path or that he/she offers him/herself to help you for advise or guidance.
While thinking about this I thought, "this is how I found my mentors as well". A few months ago a colleague turned to me and said: "if you ever have questions, you can turn to me and I'll take a look at it or I can help you explain". It made me feel so good and gave me a comfortable feeling that I could always go to that person for help.

A few days ago I had a let's say 'not so good day' at work to say the least. After work hours I turned to a colleague and we sat down and had a big chat. It was just a low key chat because that person once said to me: "If you ever feel like talking, you can always come to me". And after that last conversation and thinking back of the chapter I read earlier it hit me, this person is also my mentor!~

I makes me feel much better and reassuring that I currently have -at least- two mentors I can turn to for advise. To find a mentor, you should think out of the box. Maybe it won't be the person you think of, but the person who is sitting next from you, from another department or even another company. If you're seeking for a mentor, try 'not to look'. Sometimes -like me- you just stop and realize: "Hey, that's my mentor!". And they might not even know for themselves.
