How I Spent My 28th Birthday

This past week I celebrated my 28th birthday!! We started with dinner on Wednesday night and champagne and a present at 12 o'clock sharp!

Delicious dessert at a restaurant I'd never been. So good and so sweet!

Coffee, chocolate cake & Vogue

On Saturday we went to the sauna which I needed so much! Relaxing in all types of saunas and soaking in a pool and hot tub!
For breakfast I got chocolate cake from Starbucks and got my PSL for free because I said it was my birthday! So sweet!

For dinner we had a true feast with mussels, champagne, bread and chocolate ice cream for dessert. It was the perfect end to a perfect birthday!

On Saturday my dad and stepmom visited and at night I went to have dinner with Mandy and see a movie after.

This was truly one of my favorite birthdays ever because it was celebrate with my favorite people! It also started out quite differently. I wouldn't have imagined that a few weeks ago!

It's My 28th Birthday!!

It's my 28th birthday today! Can't believe how fast this past year went by. With my job, travels, people I met; it sure was a great 27th year!

My 28th year started out differently than any other birthday I ever had. And I think, it will mark the rest of the new birthday year as well. ;-)

Here's to a great 28th birthday year!!

An Evening at Carré In Amsterdam

Had a great weekend and was really looking forward to this one. Actually, needed a great weekend as well. Friday we went out for dinner and drinks and we had so much fun!

Saturday, we decided on a whim to go see Dutch comedian Bert Visscher in Carré in Amsterdam. We had the very last two tickets first row in the middle. Before we went to Amsterdam we joked around that we had a big change to be picked out and called upon. During the break I wanted to say, luckily we didn't get picked out! But I held myself in.

Which was for the better because of course I got picked out by Bert! He asked me my name and asked me to stand up and hold his hand. Then he said he tried to steal my rings while he wiggled them a little. He asked where I came from (Rotterdam, which is not always a good thing to say in Amsterdam :-)), how I got there (and I pointed towards my date). Then he complimented us and asked me what I did for a living. At the end he got to tell his joke and there was really no reason that I held his hand, just for interacting with his audience.
He said "If you survive a date on the first row at Bert Visscher, you will make it". Hahaha so funny! But also sweet. ;-)

At the end of the show while he got a standing ovation I already thought he would shake my hand again which he did and nodded to my date. Afterwards a bunch of people came up to us to wish us luck. It made us laugh so much!

Really, you had to be there but it was a great experience. And the theatre Carré in Amsterdam is magical!

Afterwards we went for drinks in a random pub in Amsterdam which had the best friendly vibe.

And Amsterdam is so romantic at night...

A Great Full Weekend!

My dad loves Escher

I had such a great full weekend! It started with drinks and dinner with a colleague after work on Friday. We had such a blast! Great way to unwind after a work week.

Didi & I

Friday burgers

Of course, some train travel essentials: Porter magazine, a croissant and PSL!

On Saturday I met my dad in Den Haag and first up was carrot cake for me and scrambled eggs for him before we went to the M.C. Escher museum.

Dad loves Escher! I grew up with his work around me my whole life and it was so nice to read more behind his work. Wow, so much work gets into one piece! And also, his imagination is surreal. How can he even think of that and then cut it out from wood or stone with little knives? Unbelievably talented!

Bought this one as a postcard

The museum is at the palace in Den Haag, where Queen Emma once lived. Beautiful!

Dad & I in a sphere!

The original sphere. Gorgeous.

Sunday was a beautiful warm day, great for a walk around the park. In the afternoon I read a chapter in Hillary Clinton's memoire 'Hard Choises' and looked at the art of M.C. Escher again.

It surely was, a great full weekend!

Weekend Roundup

This lovely weekend started with after work drinks with some colleagues on Friday and then, not much else. And it was great! Saturday I cleaned my apartment per usual and did a little shopping. In the evening I met my friend Mandy for dinner at a Greek restaurant.

We shared our appetizers and both chose the same main course and dessert. So much garlic but so good!

After dinner we went for drinks!

I love waking up on Sunday morning slowly and preferably without an alarm or hearing my above neighbors walk. This Sunday unfortunately, was not one of those mornings. So get getting out of bed was particularly difficult this Sunday. However, when I woke up I treated myself to a leisurely breakfast with coffee and the International New York Times.

After studying during the day I had a Chinese Sports massage appointment at 4 PM. It was so good! When I got home I did my nails and watched the end of "The Time Traveler's Wife". Whoosh! Pretty darn sad, even if it was the second time I saw it. Then I was in the mood to watch another sad movie so I watched "My Sister's Keeper" again. Such a beautiful movie and great actors. I love Jodi Picoult!! This reminds me, to read another book of her I have on my shelf. Maybe next month!

Staying Warm In Fall

The cold really got to me this week. On Monday and Tuesday I still wore a light jacket, only to come to the conclusion on Tuesday morning while I was already on my bike that I didn't dress warm enough! I'm really considering wearing gloves already in the morning, got my eye on a cashmere pair that I will purchase this weekend!

On Wednesday I went out for lunch and I said that every fall/winter, I forgot how cold feels and how cold it can actually get. And now it's still 8 degrees celsius in morning, imagine when it will be zero degrees or lower! I'm Dutch so used to cold winters, but still, never prepared or adjusted! Already have a nice winter coat but I might buy a new one. Lots of scarfs are in order of course and I'm also a big fan of the knitted hats!

I also wanted to postpone wearing sweaters to the office for as long as possible but from Wednesday on it just got too cold! Luckily I'm not the only one in the office whom is cold all the time! Drinking lots of tea to keep warm.

At the gym I'm getting warm of course very soon from doing cardio and weight lifting. Only to cool off again on the bike. Warm shower at home, but again, cooling off almost immediately!

Then I put on a big sweater or cardigan, put the heat on, have some dinner and then I study for a few hours. Usually with a cup of tea to warm me up. ;-) It's getting dark very soon now, around after dinner time, when I start to study. This time really feels like studying season and actually, it warms me up inside a little. This will be my last year!

At night we love to warm up by soaking in a bath or curling up on the couch with a new episode of Downton Abbey (currently in season 6!) or Younger (season 3 has just started!).

All in all, my body, and my mind, need to adjust to the fact that it is indeed fall. My favorite season of the year, cold and all!

Happy October!

Happy October everyone! My second favorite month has just started. Namely because my favorite season is fall and that I'll turn 28 later this month! Really weird to think of that number. I'll be officially in my late twenties. Cherishing my last two years in my twenties for sure!

The weekend started off by having drinks with colleagues straight from work. We even had the change to sit outside in the sun with our usual office view of Rotterdam!

This weekend marked the first one of October and it was perfect! Saturday was still sunny outside and I wore a big knit sweater which was still too warm. Sunday, however, it was raining all day. Perfect study weather!

Sunday evening I watched the Amanda Knox documentary on Netflix which was very interesting!

Coming week it will be even colder and... sweater weather! Have this new Zara turtleneck lying around for awhile and I can't wait to finally wear it!

Have a great October everyone!
