Four Day Weekend


Hope everyone had a nice Easter! We really did!

My weekend started on Friday as I took a day off. Did't do something really special during the day, but at night I went for dinner at Lindsey's new apartment to talk and talk, laugh and drink wine. Love her place! Love what she did with the place, she is great with decorating and an inspiration for me!


Saturday we spent the whole day outside (see the result on Friday's Fashion post). It was very windy, but warm & sunny! Spring is definitely showing!

At night I went out for dinner with Mandy. We tried out a French restaurant and loved it! We tried all little portions of the main dishes (eight in total) and tasted a little bit of everything. Except for the escargots. I ate all of those slimy things. :P


Later we went dancing!


On Sunday we celebrated First Easter Day (yes, we have two in the Netherlands) and I went to Amsterdam to meet my mom, stepdad and brother at the Americain Cafe hotel. Loved the place, so chic! And the food was delicious, so so much!




On Monday I didn't do anything for Easter and went to the gym in the morning. A two-hour long cardio and leg training, which I really needed. The rest of the day was filled studying and pampering.

Black V-Neck Sweater & Booties


I like that this Zara sweater is just a bit different than any other black sweater that I own. For one, it has a huge v-neck, but still classy if worn the right way. Second, it's a bit wider and shorter. When I don't wear anything underneath it (I wear a top under it at work), it shows a little skin. And I like the patch on it to make it a little more playful.

A Little Gym Break



Taking a little break doesn't always have to mean from work or studying, it can also be a break from working out. And that's just what I did. Last Wednesday to Thursday night I barely could sleep because of noise from my neighbor. Because she went to bed later, I couldn't sleep much after.

So that Thursday I was so tired at work. I had five coffee in the morning (four more than usual) and after a fun meeting before lunch break, I was back to myself again. But, all the coffee resulted in a huge headache in the afternoon and back to tiredness. Right there and then I decided I wouldn't go to the gym that night. Which was really hard for me, because I love working out! But I knew that this time it would only make me more tired and that I needed my little remained energy to study at night. 

Most Friday nights I don't go to the gym (except last week to do kickboxing!), so no training to nights in a row. But come Saturday, I kicked in a two hour long training session on Saturday afternoon and it felt great! I even did some stretching which felt really good as well. Really need to do that more often!

Later that day I had an hour long sports massage at my favorite massage salon which was really needed as well. I was so tight she said, she worked an hour just on my back, sheesh! She actually recommend me yoga which I haven't done in quite some time. Well, I wanted to stretch more often and I do some yoga poses after my work out at the gym so I should be doable. Maybe some pre work or before bed yoga session? I'll keep you guys posted!

Happy Spring!

Yesterday marked the first day of spring, yay! Although I didn't notice much from it. After days, it rained here in Rotterdam. And we were just getting used to the seemingly nice weather. Last week was sunny, warmer light when I go out in the morning and still light when I get back home from the gym at night! It's something what I really need, sun!

But I guess we have to stay patience and wait for a little bit more.

On the other hand, exam studying is in full force so I don't mind if it stays cold for a little while. The warmer it gets, the harder it is to stay inside to study... Can't believe my first exams are in six weeks! Aaaahh!!

Also, this is going to be a fun week for me which I've been looking forward to! Only a four day working week and then four days of weekend!

Making My Hair Healthier and Stronger



A few weeks ago I went to my hairdresser again that I go to for years now. It was really necessary. I had split ends, by hair was broken and just out of shape.

While we were talking I saw a little bottle placed in front of the mirror so we couldn't miss it. We were talking about how damaged my hair was and I grabbed the bottle and asked her about it. It's a new brand from California called Olaplex and it helps to restore the cells from within your hair instead of from the outside-in like hair conditioner.

I always love how my hair looks right when I come from the hair salon, until I wash my hair again. But this time I brought home the small bottle of Olaplex no.3 and was determined to keep my hair as healthy and shiny as it looked then.

The plan:

1. Use Olaplex once a week and keep the treatment in at least two hours. On the bottle they say 20 minutes but you can even sleep with the treatment. You use it before you shampoo and condition and use on towel dry hair. Note that this is not a mask or conditioner! This is purely to feed your hair from the inside out. After just one use, you can feel the difference! I use it for a couple of weeks now and use 2,5 squeezes at a time and it's very long lasting. It costs a couple of bucks, but worth a try. Please note: they only sell in salons. There are fake bottles for sale on the internet! 


2. Buy a new hair straightener: And this was the biggest change and help of all my tips and things that I have changed. Every time I use this straightener my hair looks and feels exactly like when I come straight from the salon. It has 100% ceramic plates and has a heat protector for your hair type. I'm using the Braun Satin-Hair 7 SensoCare and I'm hooked! This one is definitively similar as they use in salons. 



3. Try out different brands of shampoos and conditioners: I'm the type of girl who switches between 2 or 3 brands of shampoos which are for sale at any drugsstore. But this time I thought to go to a special hair shop. I asked for a good shampoo and conditioner for my hair type. Dry, but not too dry. She recommended me these. Slightly disappointing that it doesn't have Creatine since that's the new hype, but I will test them! 


4. Use a pre-heating oil: and this might have been my biggest mistake and the reason why my hair was so damaged at the first place. I did use an oil before drying, but not a special one with heating protection. At the same store I bought this special pre heating oil. After I'm done use the straightener I still use the L'oreal one for extra shine.



I hope this all works and I will keep you in the loop on how brands will work or won't work for me.

My First Kickboxing Lesson!


I honestly can't tell you guys how it occurred to me but last week I had a great idea that I wanted to... kickbox!! Well at least try a lesson. So I texted a personal trainer from my gym on whatsapp who is also a boxer and boxing teacher that I'm in contact with.

He laughed and he said of course! This was I think Tuesday and before I knew what I was getting into we scheduled a date for last Friday at 6 PM.

on Friday I first did a little cardio and then we went upstairs to the room where they normally give group lessons. We did a warm up (or he told me what to do :P) and then he put my gloves on and I could start punching.

I must say: it's really hard and great cardio but I love it!! After a little but I started to kick as well and that was great. He even taught me to give a knee in his (well covered!) stomach! And I can tell you, it's harder than it looks! You really need to give in your whole weight and hang on his neck. Haha that's the best way I can describe it! :P

Later that night I already had sore legs and I could barely move. But Saturday morning, totally OK again.

I so want more!! Kickboxing got me totally hooked!!


NB: fun fact: while typing this I'm watching 'Rocky' for the first time! :P

A Spring Family Weekend


Hope everyone had a great weekend! I sure I did. Saturday I went to Den Haag to see my dad, stepmom and dog Boris. We all went to have drinks together in the city but later I just took out my stepmom for lunch for some one on one girl time which I really have missed.

We both ordered the caesar salad (I know, my fave) with a side order of fries (duh) and wine (what else?). It was so much fun to talk and laugh and catch up on everything. After our second wine we went into the city for a little shopping. Walking though Den Haag (The Hague) always makes me realize how beautiful the city is and how much I love it. I was born in a town near here and I basically grew up in Den Haag because I visited there so often. My mom is actually born there and my dad went to school in Den Haag. 

In the afternoon I went to my uncle for his birthday and also my aunt, nieces, nephews and all the other people I love so much which this big, weird family has to offer. And my brother came as well!!

I stayed until very late actually and had a blast!

Family is so important!

Plus, it felt like a real spring weekend! Smells so nice as well! I know the USA had spring forward already but for us it's on March 27th.

International Women's Day #PledgeForParity


Tomorrow (March 8th) marks International Women's Day. This year's campaign is to #PledgeForParity.

Worldwide, women continue to contribute to social, economic, cultural and political achievement.
And we have much to celebrate today. But progress towards gender parity has slowed in many places.
The World Economic Forum predicted in 2014 that it would take until 2095 to achieve global gender parity. Then one year later in 2015, they estimated that a slowdown in the already glacial pace of progress meant the gender gap wouldn't close entirely until 2133.

So how do we want to celebrate International Women's Day 2016?

We say by Pledging For Parity!
Everyone - men and women - can pledge to take a concrete step to help achieve gender parity more quickly - whether to help women and girls achieve their ambitions, call for gender-balanced leadership, respect and value difference, develop more inclusive and flexible cultures or root out workplace bias. Becoming & Dressing Like Me Again


For the book of this month I chose to read 'The Inside Out Revolution' by Michael Neill again. I read it when it came out three years again but I can't remember if it did me any good. I think I'm more open for it now and since it's almost spring, I'm ready for a change!

Since last weekend I think I've changed a bit in my way of thinking. I'm more relaxed and willing to find myself again. Last Sunday I took everything out of my closet to actually see and feel what's in there. It's crazy to think that you always have nothing to wear, have a closet full of clothing but always end up wearing the same pieces. Well, that's about to change! I have put the 'forgotten' pieces on top of the nicely ironed and folded pile so that I can pick it out easier in the morning.

Another thing is that I started to dress a bit easy and lazy. But I want to meet me again. I want to feel like me again. On days that I do dress up, do wear a dress and heels I feel much better and powerful during the day. And that's exactly how I want to feel every day of the week.

Saturday I bought three skinny pants in colors I wouldn't wear that quickly. Gray, army green and guess what? Blush pink! Wow, can't wait to wear those! I also placed an order at Zara.com and one of the pieces is a red mini skirt. Yaaaassss! Can't wait to show it to you guys!

Hello March!

Hello March, I'm welcoming you with open arms! Because this month means that it will be spring soon. Let's hope at least that the weather is getting better. Less cold and way way less rain please!

Last weekend we had two beautiful sunny days where I could feel the sun shining on my face and it felt so good. The picture below reminded me of that.

I vow to start March as fresh (more on that in my Friday's post) and to feel a little bit more like me again. Talking to my best friend Lindsey when I feel a bit panicky makes me feel so good. She is the only person who knows how I feel in that moment and so important: what to say. But what  I want is not to feel like that anymore, when something happens where I don't have any control over. That's the worst feeling, isn't it?

Saturday was a great day on its own and the start of the old me. Sunday I didn't feel like studying but I got a lot done. Cleaning out my closet, ironing while listening to The Beatles and Coldplay and having hair and facial masks. There are so many hours in a Sunday when I'm not studying! :P

I haven't heard it for a long time, but Hilary Duff's 'Outlaw' really makes me feel good and powerful again.

Can it really be as easy as a song? Yes it can.
